The Car of the Week this week is the 1999 Nissan Skyline GTR R34!
This nostalgia inducing car, made iconic through it’s roles in many motoring movies including fast and furious, more importantly its unique engineering using twin ceramic intercooled turbo chargers to remove all turbo-lag. This beautiful car also used six individual throttle valves to allow each cylinder to act as singular engines.

The car of the day today is the wonderful Lotus Elan + 2.

The Elan +2 was introduced in 1967 with a longer wheelbase and 2 rear seats. 5,200 Elan +2were made. The Elan +2 ceased production in 1975. Because of its successful design and rigorous attention to cost control on the body, chassis, engine and transmission, the Elan went on to become Lotus’ first commercial success, reviving a company stretched thin by the more exotic and expensive to build Lotus Elite enabling funding of the Lotus success in racing over the next ten years.

This weeks car of the week is this superb Mazda MX 5 built in 1996.
The Mazda MX 5 two door convertible sports car was originally manufactured in Japan and was the best selling sports car of all time in 2000 and won a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Classic car enthusiasts may be interested to read about the auction of a number of classic vehicles that took place on the 17th October 2018 at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. The event was run by H &H Classic Cars. Below we mention some of the cars that were sold but full details can be found on the H & H website.
A 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 MK 11 that had an estimated price of £18,000 to £22,000 was actually sold for much more than that – it went for £30,375. This open soft top Colorado red sports car had been in the same ownership since 1969 and has only 38,457 miles on the clock making it a very low mileage vehicle. It has a 132 bhp engine and comes with 60-spoke wire wheels. It certainly looks fantastic.
A 1947 Lea-Francis 14hp Drophead Coupe had an estimated price of £9,000 to £11,000 buactually sold for £14,625. This vintage vehicle only has 23,000 miles on the clock. It has a red leather hood and interior trim. It was once owned by the father of a well known pop star – Mike Maxfield.
A 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL had an estimated price of £14,000 to £18,000 but was sold for a figure of £20,250. It had been in the possession of the same owner for 16 years and had 86,295 miles on the clock. It has cream bodywork. It has a factory hard top with a rear seat option. It has a 2,962cc engine producing 187bhp and a top speed of around 130mph.
A 1960 BMW Isetta 300 had an estimated price of £14,000 to £16,000 but actually sold for £19,406. This is a four-wheeled bubble car with only 11,888 miles on the clock. It has had 4 owners. It only has a 298cc engine. It has a pale green bodywork. It looks delightful.
A 1953 Sunbeam Alpine had an estimated price of £10,000 to £12,000 but achieved a sale price of £15,468. The bodywork is a stunning red. This is a rare classic car with only 1,582 being built. It has 80,928 miles on the clock.
A 1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Sedanca de Ville had an estimated sale price of £18,000 to £22,000 but was sold for £23,625. The bodywork is in black and the car is in need of some restoration work to bring it back to the standard you would expect to see such a vehicle in.
A 1929 Hillman 14 Tourer had an estimated sale price of £14,000 to £16,000 but achieved a sale price of £19,125. Its previous owner before being sold at the above auction had had the vehicle since 2000. It has a 1953cc engine. It has 4 seats and a soft top.
Rowan Atkinson, the comedy actor, has appeared in the likes of Blackadder and Mr Bean and has presumably earned quite a lot of money over the years. He is also keen on cars and has owned a number over the years some of which have been modern classic cars.
In fact, we have previously commented on a McLaren FI that he became rather well known for owning. Unfortunately, that particular car made the news some years ago because it had been involved in a road traffic accident and the insurance company paid out over £900,000 to repair it which, at the time, was believed to be a record payout for a car insurance claim. At a later date, he sold the car for several million pounds.
Well, he is shortly to put a couple of modern classic cars up for auction that he is the proud owner of. The cars are being offered for sale at Silverstone Auction’s Race Retro Classic Car Sale 2018 that takes place in February.
There is a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E that has a left hand drive and is powered by a V8 4,973 cc engine. This car was capable of rocketing to 60mph in a mere 5 seconds and could get to 100mph (when legally allowed to do so) in 14 seconds plus. It is interesting that one of the things that makes this car rather sought after is the fact that it is hand built. It only has around 50,000 miles on the clock so it quite low mileage for its age.
The other classic car that Rowan Atkinson is offering for sale at the above auction is a 1989 Lancia Thema 8.32. It also has a V8 engine and is also left hand drive. This was also a nippy vehicle capable of getting to 60mph in just under 7 seconds as it accelerated to a maximum speed of 150mph. It is believed that in the 7 years Mr Atkinson has owned the vehicle he has spent around £20,000 on maintaining it.
